About the Workshop

Future Through Memory is a virtual participatory workshop that explores themes of personal memory and East and Southeast Asian diasporic experience through methods of oral testimony, transmedia, and digital storytelling.

The workshop is a space where multidisciplinary artists and practitioners can learn about virtual reality, and recreate virtual worlds online. The workshop is supported by technical guidance, sounds/audio workshops, and sharing among peers. Participants are supported by the multidisciplinary backgrounds of the Dias:stories team.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to use my legal name for the application?

Nope, participants are welcome to enter with their preferred name. We will only need your legal name for administrative purposes to send your honorarium and will be kept confidential.

What If I need to leave this workshop series mid-way?

Participants are free to leave the project and workshops at any time. The honorarium will be based on attendance, so you will still be rewarded for your time committed to the study ($1080/X sessions attended).

Can I do my project in another language or feature other languages besides English in my project?

Yes, we welcome participants to include other languages to communicate their stories. Translation into English is optional, but not mandatory.

How will my portfolio and work be peer-reviewed?

Portfolios will be reviewed based on a process that considers a range of Southeast and East Asian experiences, diverse storytelling forms, and artistic capacities. Our goal is to curate an interdisciplinary experience that includes a wide range of participants from different backgrounds.

Where is this going to be presented?

There will be a virtual exhibition and potentially a future physical exhibition with partner organizations. Participants will hold rights over intellectual property.
